The sister pub to Aloha Beer Co. in Kakaako has recently opened in Downtown Honolulu, located in the brand new renovated Central Pacific Bank location off of Alakea and S. King Streets. Within the spanking new lobby of the branch you'll also find a Starbucks, sit-down seating, WiFi and easy order, grab-and-go access.
The concept is quick service, meets pau hana and they also offer alcoholic beverages including brews. The bank lobby also serves as a public meeting space and offers distanced tables, open seating and natural bright sunlight for a relaxed overall feel.
The menu includes their famous flatbreads, sandwiches, salads, fries and beer of course. The flatbreads are sized well enough for one person to be content and the sandwiches are massively generous in portion. We thoroughly enjoyed the BBQ Chicken Flatbread, the Tuna Melt was hearty and gigantically dripping with tuna and lettuce. Meanwhile, the cheesy waffle fries were flavorful but disappointing as the packaging left them very moist and lacked crunch or crispness.
Overall, this is great value for the price, easy access and great to support local businesses and new developments. It is located downtown, but not in the heart of downtown so it is easier to find parking and just two crosswalks away from Iolani Palace.

There's a new love child born in Chinatown in Honolulu, Hawaii. This love child makes amazing pizza! From the owners of Encore and The Daley (Burger) meet the owner of Brick Fire Tavern (which recently moved out of Chinatown and into Kaimuki). Now Encore and The Daley are right next door to where Brick Fire Tavern once was and they all partnered to birth a new baby that serves up two distinct styles of pizza. (Located in the old Brick Fire Tavern Spot).
Meet your new friend Pizza Mamo!
Pizza Mamo is a mainly takeout spot on Hotel Street that crafts oven roasted and pipping hot fresh pizzas.
Brookyln-Style: New York style with it's thin and crispy crust the pie is 16-inches or more and emulates everything we love about those New York pizza memories. The dough is light, crisp and the pizza is massive. $21-$28
Now meet Detroit-Style: Not really deep dish but more of a pan pizza, Detroit is a hardier pizza, herb seasoned crust and oozing with more cheese than the New York as it is made in a pan and smaller in size as well. The crust is crunchy and firm while the density of the pizza is flavorful. $19-$24
Overall, we loved the Brooklyn-Style for it's size, texture and quality. The Detroit was a little on the salty and dry side, despite the pour of tomato sauce on the top.
Pizza Mamo is a delicious new addition to the Chinatown, Hawaii vibe and serves up incredible fresh pizzas.

Traditionally steakhouses in Taiwan serve up cuts of meat on a sizzling cast iron skillet, with that you will also find noodles or pasta, veggies and an egg. This traditional style of eating and enjoying has now come to Hawaii and North School street to be exact.
Brand new DT Steak House serves complete meals with yummy corn egg drop soup, light cabbage salad, your choice of entree and pineapple li hing mui shave ice for dessert. The main dishes include steak, shrimp, chicken and a combo.
The combination of chicken. steak and shrimp came out sizzling hot. The sauces were bold yet not too bold and packed with flavor. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and adding the egg to your pasta and the overall meal adds moisture and a sense of creaminess.
Most of all this new eatery in Kalihi, Hawaii boasts great value. For the price you get a full meal with all the accompaniments along with enough for leftovers. Prices range from $17-23 and you'll most definitely leave full.
Parking can be found along School Street on just behind the building in two parking lots that are open and free. We thoroughly enjoyed the soup and the sizzling plate with shrimp. This gives you a good taste of Taiwan cooking and also allows you to order milk tea from next door's Dragon Tea, which is the same owner as well.

Food trucks hold a special place in everyone's hearts. It is an option for budding chefs to build their menu, create their recipes and develop a following. One of the best food truck discoveries encountered recently was the Happy Belly eatery food truck.
Located at Pearlridge Center parking lot on the makai side Sears wing, this full flavored, expertly textured and blend of fusion dishes truly delights. Happy Belly takes local comfort foods to the next level and creates delicious sauces, flavor combinations and large portions are affordable Hawaii prices.
we sampled the:
Happy Mix Plate: Jumbo Shrimp Katsu with Honey Sriracha Chicken (amazing)
Shrimp Burger (excellent)
Country Fried Steak with Chorizo Gravy (wooooooowwww)
Kim Chee Grilled Cheese Sandwich
We can't wait to go back, everything was bursting with flavor, expertly created and cooked to perfection.
Located in Ala Moana Center on the Mauka side, Ewa Wing near Longs and Victoria's Secret is an authentic Japanese-style ramen shop. Known as being fresh, gourmet yet affordable Tanaka Ramen & Izakaya came to Hawaii when they launched their first location in Kapolei, then at Ala Moana Center and soon to come Pearlridge Center.
Overall the noodle is perfectly prepared and light yet features the most sought after texture. The broths are delightfully delicious, while some of the standouts are more pronounced in flavor and ingredients. We tried the:
Tanaka Garlic Cheese - which was the standout crowd favorite with it's bold garlic essence, savory umami from the parmesan cheese and fulfilling broth.
Yuzu Tori Ramen - was light yet uplifting, the citrus gives the ramen a bright feeling and compliments the savory flavors.
Chili Cilantro Tori Ramen- has a great combination of herbal flavors with a little kick of spice to create a fusion of highlights on your tongue.
Also available: Shishito Peppers, Cold Tofu Salad, izakaya style happy hour featuring chicken wings, truffle fries and more.
Here is a look at the menu items you'll find only at the Ala Moana location along with their brand new Happy Hour food and drink options.
When a Chef finds his passion something truly unique and delicious happens. For Chef Aaron Biolos he's had his hands in the culinary world for many years, but recently ventured into the baking business as a side passion. Thus, WeirDoughsFocaccia was born. Tall in stature, but a big huggable teddy bear at heart, Aaron uses his love of food to create flavorful focaccia breads. Made fresh, local, by hand and using mainly local ingredients he's also created sandwiches, open-face toasts and pizzas with his breads. This is the best focaccia we've ever tasted, it is moist, pillowy, soft, savory and overall excellent quality and value. It's great fresh, toasted, with anything you pair it with and darn right delicious.
Located on Sundays at the Lokahi Kailua Market you'll spot his menu of savory goodness:
Brunch FocashZa - the OG Focaccia topped with Toum, local egg, cheddar cheesy shrimp, mala mama micro greens, heirloom grape tomato, salt and vinegar chip dust.
Detroit FocashZa - OG dough slathered in house made pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, ricotta and house made meatballs.
Grab 'N" Go - OG focaccia piled high with Olympia Provisions Chorizo, salami cotto, pepper jack cheese and house made chimichurri.
Hot 'N' Weird - OG Focaccia smeared with Dou, topped with Butcher & Bird ham, house made mojo pork, swiss cheese, house made dill pickles, slathered in Boum and Panini pressed.

Tried and true... a staple in the Kailua community, Moke's Bread & Breakfast serves downright craveworthy, local comfort food with a smile. Originally opened by Chef Moke Warren in 2004, the eatery has expanded to Kaimuki and Japan. Now run by Keola, Moke's son, the service is friendly and approachable, while the food is hearty, fresh and delicious.
Famous for their Lilikoi Pancakes, the sauce is a passion fruit cream that is perfectly tart and sweet. The pancakes are elegant, fluffy and light. The other items on the menu are more hearty and bring the locals in, especially after a hike or morning at the beach. You'll find Loco Moco, Biscuits, Omeletes and homemade corned beef hash to satisfy. The eggs are buttery, the fried rice is plentiful and the servings are hefty.
Like many restaurants trying to stay afloat, they are offering limited dine-in, delivery and takeout. Takeout seems to keep a lot of people open and employed. The food is a lot like going to uncles house and the service is friendly and welcoming. It truly makes you feel like you're family and you are supporting family just by sitting there and ordering.

Imagine you are swept away to Turkey... The music, the ambiance, the delicate touches and aroma of unique spices envelopes you. But, you are instead in the heart of Kakaako, in Ward eating at Istanbul! Yes, this is really happening. Istanbul Restaurant is a one-of-a-kind, authentic Mediterranean meets middle eastern cuisine using local ingredients and believe me when I say every bite is delicious.
A mother and daughter duo expertly craft their meals and are known for their Turkish and Ottomon cuisine at Istanbul Restaurant; you'll find freshness, bold flavors and perfectly cooked delights here. Eggplant, chickpeas, feta, lamb and organic chicken compose the menu. Each dish is expertly crafted, gently adorned with pomegranate seeds and flowers. Each presentation is gloriously beautiful. You can order from an array of chilled dishes and warm dishes and then entrees that are complete with delicious Turkish saffron pilaf rice.
Lunch showcases lighter fare including pita wraps, while dinner is more robust and highlights mains including local fresh caught fish, Kauai shrimp, grass-fed local meats and other Turkish delicacies. We visited for lunch and enjoyed the Meze Platter which gives you a taste of starters including the hummus, babaganush, muhamara and a few others. The doner is superb and very moist and flavorful. Everything eaten is simply divine and the desserts were also outstanding. We enjoyed the baklava and the hatay kunefe which is an absolutely mind-blowingly delicious shredded filo with cheese, pistachio and honey.
Everything is presented with passion and purpose. Each dish is unique and supremely delicious and the service is very welcoming, patient and eager to share. Go enjoy and experience Turkish cuisine unlike any other on Oahu.
